In May 2015 researchers from Spain published their review of the scientific literaturerelating to the effect of consuming fermented beverages, in particular beer. Results showed that beer appears to have antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral effects. It may also have a beneficial effect on cardiovascular health, as those individuals with a moderate consumption of beer appeared to have a greater protection against cardiovascular disease than those who drank no alcohol at all. The researchers therefore concluded that the moderate consumption of beer could be considered part of a healthy diet but only for healthy adults, never for children, adolescents or pregnant women.
