In June 2018 researchers from Iran and Canada published their review of the scientific literature to assess the effectiveness of chocolate milk on post-exercise recovery markers when compared to either water or “sports drinks”. Twelve studies were identified, with 11 having information on at least one performance/recovery marker. Results showed that chocolate milk provided either similar or superior results when compared to water or other “sports drinks”. However, the evidence was limited and further research is required.
