In January 2019 researchers from China, USA and The Netherlands published their review of the medical scientific literature to assess the effect of Tai Chi on individuals with osteopenia and osteoporosis. A total of 15 articles, involving 857 individuals, that compared Tai Chi with a control group were included in the review. Results showed that Tai Chi may improve bone mineral density and relieve osteoporotic pain. However, it did not appear to improve quality of life, levels of calcium and phosphorus, and also had no effect on bone turnover markers.
