In January 2019 researchers from Spain and Northern Ireland published the results of their study to assess the association between moderate-vigorous physical activity and pain, fatigue and severity of fibromyalgia. A total of 439 women, average age 51 years, were involved in the study. Information on pain, fatigue and severity of the condition was collected via questionnaires. Results showed that a greater amount of time spent on moderate-vigorous physical activity was associated with reduced fatigue and a lower severity of the condition irrespective of physical fitness. However, 10 minute periods of moderate-vigorous physical activity were seen to reduce the symptoms of pain and fatigue as well as the overall severity of the fibromyalgia, regardless of periods of inactivity and physical fitness.
