In October 2018 researchers from Iran published their review of the medical scientific literature to assess the effect of curcumin supplementation on body weight, BMI and waist circumference. A total of 11 studies, involving 876 individuals (53% women) were included in the review. Results showed that curcumin supplementation appeared to reduce body weight and BMI, but had no significant effect on waist circumference. However, a further analysis revealed a reduction in waist circumference when the curcumin dosage was over 1000 mg/day, the supplementation was taken for more than 8 weeks and when the study was performed on overweight individuals.
